Range Rules

Firearms

All firearms must be checked in prior to use.

Age

Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Range Officers

The Range Officer on duty is in direct charge of the range at all times.

Ammunition

Armor piercing, tracer or incendiary ammunition is prohibited.

Black powder is prohibited.

Jacketed bullets with non-lead base required, (e.g., total metal jacket, TMJ, jacketed hollow point/soft point, JHP, JSP). click here for out ammunition policy

Holsters

Holsters may be used by law enforcement officers, carry permit holders, and commissioned security personnel only. Holsters MAY NOT be used during firing sessions. Loaded firearms must remain in the holster at all times, and may be removed from holsters ONLY at the firing line when ready to fire at the beginning of the shooting session. Firearms may be returned to the holster at the completion of the shooting session.  

Range Commands

CEASE FIRE:  Verbal or signaled by a red light or by the range target lights turned off. Any individual may declare a cease-fire at any time. During a cease-fire: STOP SHOOTING IMMEDIATELY, (shooter who is in the process of squeezing the trigger must stop, engage safety if applicable, place the firearm on the table, muzzle pointing down range. Step away from the shooting position.

COMMENCE FIRING: On this command you may step forward and continue to fire. 

Safety Rules

  1. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction
  2. Keep fingers off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until ready to fire.
  3. Keep the action open and unloaded until ready to fire and in position on the firing line.
  4. Be completely familiar with the operation of your firearm.
  5. Be sure that you are using the correct ammunition.
  6. Carry only one caliber of ammunition when shooting.
  7. Loading or unloading firearm is permitted only in the shooting lane with muzzle pointed down range.
  8. Always wear eye and ear protection.
  9. Do not use alcohol or drugs while shooting
  10. Food or beverage is not permitted in the shooting area.
  11. Shoot only at authorized targets.
  12. Place firearms on the shooting table, pointed down range during a ceasefire.
  13. Do not handle firearms or stand at the firing line when others are down range.
  14. Only authorized firearms are permitted on the range.
  15. Obey all range commands immediately.
  16. No one shall go forward of the firing line.
  17. Shooting a rifle from any unstable position (hip shooting) is prohibited.
  18. When loading, the rifle must remain on the table and pointed at the backstop area. Moving the rifle off the bench rest to reload is prohibited.
  19. Only one shooter per position, coaching is permitted.
  20. Non-shooters may not enter range area.
  21. You may not shoot if you have been drinking alcohol or have been using other substances, including prescription drugs, within the last 8 hours.
  22. When leaving the firing line at any time, unload the firearm, lock the action open and place it on the table with the muzzle pointing down range.
  23. When you are finished shooting, all firearms must be unloaded and placed in a secure carrying case with the action open before leaving the shooting position.
  24. If the firearm malfunctions, becomes jammed, or if you require assistance of any type from the range office, place the firearm on the table with the muzzle pointing down range, step back from your shooting position and contact the range officer. (At no time should you remove a loaded or jammed firearm from the firing line.)
  25. When you have a misfire (dud), keep the muzzle pointed down range for 60 seconds. Contact the range officer.
  26. Always keep muzzle pointed down range, never point muzzle towards ceiling or floor.
  27. Wash your hands after shooting.
  28. Full autos are permitted; all shooters must be certified by the facility prior to use.
  29. When range is at full capacity, members will be limited to one hour of shooting time per session.

I, ____________________________ my agents, assigns, executors or administrators for the consideration of being allowed to enter, rent and use the facilities, and services of Horst and McCann, Inc. Gun Range do herby absolutely and unequivocally agree to release and hold harmless Horst and McCann, Inc. Gun Range, its agents, employees, instructors, assigns, owners and successors from any all claim, demand or liability, arising out of any injury loss or disability connected with the use of, attendance or activities at the facility.  I further understand that shooting can be dangerous and will at all times exercise safe gun handling practices.
