Here is an interesting commentary on censorship regarding what is acceptable in a firearm commercial. The first ad was rejected by Comcast Spotlight, as it violated their policy, in that no commercials could be shown of firearms being fired, and absolutely no handguns being shown, period. Of course, we can still advertise that we have an indoor gun range, and that you can buy and shoot firearms, but we can't show this in reality.

Notice that we were able to show images of machineguns, but not handguns in the second ad. The second ad was still censored in that we cannot show the commercials before 10pm, similar to those commercials advertising phone sex. We were also limited to a handful of channels, such as Spike TV, The History Channel, and The Discovery Channel. Comcast Spotlight considered the ads inappropriate for some viewers, though they could not articulate which viewers these were.

Remember, too that this advertisement will be shown during programs that depict humans being shot, things being blown up, etc., films like Lara Croft, The Matrix, The Punisher, etc.

This should challenge ones belief that we have freedom of expression and that we are not subject to censorship in our society.

The next time you are enjoying your shooting sport, consider what it is that you are doing that makes Comcast Spotlight categorize it with phone sex.
